Selecting sunglasses

May 27th, 2008

When a lot of time is spent outdoors, your eyes are exposed to ultraviolet light rays in the sunlight. These can cause both short term and long term eye problems like cataracts and temporary blindness. To avoid these problems, doctors recommend the use of sunglasses while outdoors.

Tips for selecting sunglasses:

1. Polarized lenses are useful for reducing reflected glare while driving

2. Depending on the intensity of  the UV light, photo chromic lenses will either become darker or lighter

3. For driving, gradient lenses which are darker at the top and lighter at the bottom are recommended.

4. For water sports, mirrored coated lenses which reflect light should be used.
